In a speech marking Black History Month<\/a>, Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. on Wednesday labeled the United States \u201cessentially a nation of cowards\u201d when it comes to race relations.<\/p>\n

Is he nuts? Leave aside for a moment Holder\u2019s purely decorative call for a \u201cfrank\u201d conversation about race. The Clinton-era Conversation also purported to be frank, and we know what that meant: a one-sided litany of white injustices. Please raise your hand if you haven\u2019t heard the following bromides about \u201cthe racial matters that continue to divide us\u201d more times than you can count: Police stop and arrest blacks at disproportionate rates because of racism; blacks are disproportionately in prison because of racism; blacks are failing in school because of racist inequities in school funding; the black poverty rate is the highest in the country because of racism; blacks were given mortgages that they couldn\u2019t afford because of racism. I will stop there.<\/p>\n

Not only do colleges, law schools, almost all of the nation\u2019s elite public and private high schools, and the mainstream media, among others, have \u201cconversations about . . . racial matters\u201d; they never stop talking about them. Any student who graduates from a moderately selective college without hearing that its black students are victims of institutional racism\u2014notwithstanding the fact that the vast majority of black students there will have been deliberately admitted with radically lower SAT scores than their white and Asian comrades\u2014has been in a coma throughout his time there.<\/p>\n

The House Oversight Committee let loose with a scathing assessment of\u00a0Eric Holder<\/a>\u00a0in a recent report, accusing the Barack Obama-era attorney general of outright misleading Congress on its investigation of the \u201cFast and Furious\u201d gun-running scandal.<\/p>\n

And get this. Among the report\u2019s 300 pages is the committee\u2019s finding that\u00a0Holder<\/a>\u00a0regarded the family of murdered Border Patrol agent\u00a0Brian Terry<\/a>\u00a0as a \u201cnuisance.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despicable.<\/p>\n

Terry<\/a>, of course, was killed in December 2010 by a firearm believed to be part of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives\u2019 Operation Fast and Furious program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
